Complete Leh Ladakh Bike Trip Plan – Agra to Leh Ladakh
If you're planning a motorcycle expedition from Agra to Leh, I recommend the Jammu–Srinagar–Kargil route for entering Ladakh and the Manali route for returning, provided the high-altitude roads are open.
This gives you a complete Himalayan circuit covering Srinagar, Sonamarg, Zoji La, Kargil, Lamayuru, Leh, Nubra Valley, Pangong Lake, Tso Moriri and Manali.
1. Trip overview
Particular | Details |
|---|---|
Starting point | Agra, Uttar Pradesh |
Destination | Leh, Ladakh |
Recommended duration | 15–17 days |
Approx. total distance | 2,800–3,200 km |
Bike | Royal Enfield / Himalayan |
Difficulty | Moderate to challenging |
Best season | June–September |
Highest point | Umling La, approx. 5,798 m |
Entry route | Jammu–Srinagar–Kargil |
Exit route | Leh–Manali |
Important timing: It is 3 November 2026. If you intend to start immediately, this is a winter expedition, not a normal full-circuit bike trip. Zoji La and the Manali–Leh highway can face seasonal closures, snow and severe weather. For the complete circuit, I recommend June–September 2027.

Extreme high-altitude riding destination.
8. Magnetic Hill
Popular roadside attraction.
5. Estimated trip budget – Agra to Leh
For one rider and one motorcycle, assuming 18 days:
Expense | Estimated cost |
|---|---|
Petrol | ₹10,000–14,000 |
Accommodation | ₹12,000–18,000 |
Food | ₹7,000–10,000 |
Bike maintenance | ₹2,500–4,000 |
Camping / sightseeing | ₹2,000–3,000 |
Miscellaneous | ₹3,000–5,000 |
Total | ₹36,500–54,000 |
Keep another ₹10,000–15,000 as an emergency reserve.
Budget depends on bike mileage, accommodation and seasonal prices. Excludes bike rental and major repairs.
6. Petrol and fuel planning
Fuel availability is limited on several Ladakh routes.
Location | Fuel planning |
|---|---|
Agra | Full tank |
Jammu | Refuel |
Srinagar | Refuel |
Kargil | Refuel |
Leh | Full tank |
Nubra | Don't depend on village fuel |
Pangong | Plan fuel from Leh |
Hanle / Nyoma | Verify local availability |
Tso Moriri | Carry sufficient range |
Manali | Refuel |
Important: Fill up in Leh before starting the Nubra, Pangong and Changthang circuits. Your actual fuel range should determine whether a spare approved fuel container is necessary.
7. Best time for a Ladakh motorcycle trip
Month | Conditions |
|---|---|
May | Some roads opening; snow possible |
June | Good adventure season |
July | Good access, but busy |
August | Good, with occasional weather disruptions |
September | My recommendation |
October | Cold weather and increasing road closures |
November–March | Serious winter conditions |
For your complete Agra–Leh–Manali circuit, September 2027 is a good target. The Srinagar–Leh highway generally has a longer seasonal window than the Manali–Leh highway.
8. Current road status – 3 November 2026
Important winter road conditions
Srinagar–Leh / Zoji La
Manali–Leh highway
Leh–Nubra / Pangong
Umling La / Tso Moriri
The Manali–Leh highway has been reported officially closed for winter traffic.
The Ladakh PWD road-status page lists updates dated 2 November 2026, but its displayed status fields are blank, so it does not establish that the other roads are open.

9. Bike preparation and safety
Altitude safety: Spend at least two nights acclimatising in Leh before attempting Nubra, Pangong or other higher-altitude destinations. Avoid ascending to Umling La too early. Headache, nausea, dizziness and breathlessness can be symptoms of altitude sickness. Descend and seek medical assistance if symptoms develop.
Check the latest permit requirements for Nubra, Pangong, Hanle and other restricted or protected areas through the official Ladakh Permit Portal.
