Mumbai to Leh Ladakh – Complete Bike Trip Plan

Mumbai to Leh Ladakh – Complete Bike Trip Plan

Mumbai se Leh ki bike ride ek proper long-distance motorcycle expedition hai. Is route mein Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh aur Ladakh cover kar sakte ho.

My recommendation: Mumbai → Rajasthan → Amritsar → Srinagar → Kargil → Leh, aur return mein Manali → Chandigarh → Delhi → Rajasthan → Mumbai.

  • Total round-trip distance: approximately 5,500–6,000 km, depending on sightseeing and return route.

  • Recommended duration: 23–26 days.

  • Best planning window: June–August 2027, subject to highway opening and monsoon/weather conditions.

  • Recommended route: Srinagar se Leh jao, Manali se return karo.

Mumbai se Leh ki ride ko 15–18 din mein complete karne ki koshish mat karna. Plains ki long-distance riding ke baad Ladakh mein acclimatisation aur sightseeing ke liye sufficient time rakho.

This is a demanding itinerary. Keep one or two extra buffer days, and split any long stretch if you feel tired or weather conditions deteriorate.

3. Best places to explore

4. Approximate budget

One rider, own motorcycle, approximately 26 days.

Expense

Estimated amount

Petrol (5,500–6,000 km)

₹18,000–24,000

Accommodation

₹16,000–25,000

Food

₹15,000–20,000

Bike servicing and repairs

₹5,000–8,000

Permits, parking and miscellaneous

₹3,000–5,000

Estimated total

₹57,000–82,000

Keep another ₹15,000–20,000 as an emergency reserve. These estimates assume budget stays and reasonable motorcycle mileage.

A Mumbai-based rider's 2026 community ride report describes a roughly 5,800 km circuit completed in 21 days, with weather and health-related itinerary changes. It illustrates why buffer days matter.

5. Current road and seasonal information

As of 3 November 2026
  • Manali–Leh: Officially closed to all vehicular traffic for winter.

    Akashvani News

  • Srinagar–Leh: Seasonal highway. The official Leh PWD page lists the road but does not display a clear current status. Confirm before departure.

  • 2027 planning: July or August is a reasonable target, but check road-opening announcements before starting from Mumbai.

High-altitude safety: Spend at least two nights acclimatising in Leh before heading to higher areas. Carry a puncture kit, inflator, warm layers, basic medicines and sufficient water. Fuel planning is especially important for the Hanle and Tso Moriri sections.
